Our adviser service helps businesses understand and source the training they need to succeed by offering impartial, flexible and responsive advice that is free of charge. The aim is to develop workforce skills and ensure that training is delivered to meet the needs of your organisation.

Train more, gain moreThe service can help you improve your productivity and competitiveness by ensuring your staff have got the right skills to do the job. A Business Link adviser will visit your office at a time to suit you. They will:

  • Provide a diagnostic to establish any skills gaps that exist in your business.
  • Identify the training needs that will fill the gaps now and in the future.
  • Help you meet your skills requirements by assisting you to choose the most suitable training and training provider.
  • Ensure you get the best value for money from your investment in training.

Train to Gain offers all businesses access to:

Full funding for:

  • Basic skills support at all levels.
  • First full level 2 qualifications (equivalent to 5 GCSEs).
  • First level 3 (equivalent to 2 A-levels) for 19 - 25 year olds.
  • Some first level 4 for 19 - 25 year olds who do not already have a level 3
  • Some funding for people who already have qualifications at level 2 and 3 and would like to take another.
  • 'Bite sized' training for existing staff in subjects demanded by businesses including business improvement, business systems and processes, sales and marketing, IT, finance and credit and many more (only available to organisations who employ less than 250 people).

Shared investment between the employer and the Government for:

  • English for Speakers of Other Languages qualifications at all levels.
  • Apprenticeships.
  • For businesses with between 5 and 999 employees, specialist support to diagnose skills needs of leaders and managers and funding towards the costs of leadership and management development.  Find more information on the leadership and management programme.

Employers with less than 50 employees may be able to access a contribution towards wages for time that staff are on their training.

In addition, Train to Gain can help businesses source full cost, higher level and bespoke training support.

Train to surviveIn these challenging times, businesses need to keep a tight rein on costs yet research shows that businesses that do not train their workforce are 2.5 times more likely to fail than those that do. This is why the Government is putting more funding and flexibility into skills support for businesses through Train to Gain.
